Herb Haven
A Venture Run by Women on the Path to Self-Sufficiency
"And then the day came,
when the risk to remain tight in a bud
was more painful than the risk
it took to blossom"
- Anais Nin

Herb Haven is a holistic day program serving women and children who are striving to become self-sufficient. Herb Haven operates on a new paradigm that offers a fluid, responsive, whole system approach to breaking the cycle of poverty and attaining self-sufficiency.
Participants receive, free of charge:
| |
Three nutritious meals per week and on-going nutrition education
Family and individual therapy
Support group meetings
Horticultural therapy and Herbalism education
Leadership opportunities via Service Projects
Job readiness training and career development services
Children's programming (arts, music, gardening, creative play, learning together!)
Connection to other community resources/agencies to address food and housing assistance, legal aid, transportation, childcare, health insurance, medical care, higher education and more.
And most importantly, a community of support that breaks the cycle of isolation that so many rural women experience. A community that also empowers women to discern and pursue their dreams for themselves and their families.

Day to day we plant, tend, harvest, and create healing products with a wide variety of herbs, and sell them via regional festivals. Growing and using herbs is highly therapeutic and participants consistently report increased self-esteem, sense of belonging, healthy habits, stress and anger relief, relaxation, respect for others, communication skills, coping strategies, connection with Nature and others, physical health, responsibility, creativity, decision making skills, self-worth and a sense of accomplishment.
Past participants have been women and children who are in transition from situations such as underemployment, job displacement, illness, divorce, abuse, chemical dependency and incarceration (for non-violent crimes). Most participants are from Ontario County and Yates County.
Herb Haven is grant funded and is offered free of charge to eligible participants. We ask that participants commit at minimum of 6 months to the learning process, to allow for new skills and positive changes to take root.
Great Gratitude to all of our funders, volunteers and in-kind donors who make Herb Haven possible!!
